Midnight Sail

The waking dream reveals a tale

Mysterious mimes on a

Midnight Sail.

Like fleeting frames

In a silent film.

You witness the motion,

The life force is still.

Reverant images poised to

Depart.  The waking dream, a

Revelation of the heart.

Reflect on each breath

These memories are frail.

Savor the awakening from the

Midnight Sail.

Backyard Plays

Red light Green Light

One, two, three.

Hours of fun for my friends and me.

Nothing organized

Nothing planned,

Digging to China in the sand.

Backyard plays and carnivals too,

Never a shortage of things to do.

Charging admission was always a thrill.

Our Dad couldn’t imagine a cable bill.

I really am saddened when I think of the loss,

Technologies great

But oh what a cost!

Sitting for hours,

Staring at a screen,

Selecting icons.

See what I mean?

I know I seem ancient, but really I’m not

We invented free love,

And smoking pot.

But when I was a kid we seeked

Buried Treasure.

And needless to say, those days

Were a pleasure!

Important Things

Daughters learn from Mothers,

But Mothers learn from Daughters too.

Things like

Don’t wear leggings!

One hundred dollar flat irons are

Better than twenty dollar flat irons.

Quinoa is better than white rice.

Don’t wear leggings!

Twenty dollar razors are

Better than two dollar razors.

Only wash your hair once a week.

One hundred and fifty dollar jeans are

Better than forty dollar jeans.

Don’t wear leggings!

And most importantly,

Everything feels better

With a tank top!

The Unknowing

The ancient maple drenched in the vastness

Of the ever cooling air.

Her leaves all orange and red

Glowing to perfection.

The heart plunges and she believes

Life isn’t fair.

One leaf makes it’s descent

And she knows it has begun.

She must maintain her dignity

Everywhere she looks there is loss

But fear loves the unknowing.

She stands erect, firmly grounded

Yet somehow sleepy,

Filled with wonder about life’s cruel cycle.

Is there joy after the deep sleep?

Only acceptance invites a veil of peace.

Lucy Booth

Lucy Booth had a loose tooth

Nothing would take it away.

She had so much fun

Pushing with her tongue

It wiggled and wiggled all day.

She went to her Papa

Who just could not stop her

From making it swing and sway.

She tried corn on the cob

String on a door knob,

It seemed it was here to stay.

She had Jello that jiggled

And girlfriends that giggled,

But finally this was the day

When Lucy Booth

Lost her tooth

And the Tooth Fairy

Took it away!

Bill’s 50th Birthday

1959 may seem like the dark ages.
But I’ll tell you what happened on the following pages.

Alaska becomes our 49th state
Barbie debuts and there’s quite a debate.

Russia beats us to the moon.
While Twilight Zone will be on soon.

Hawaii becomes state #50
Bozo the Clown was really nifty.

Gary Player wins the British Open
While Vince Lombardi’s in Green Bay coachin’.

But in New Jersey a star was born
No it wasn’t Bruce Springstein or Lena Horn

It was little Bill Eastty who came into this world
You’d never know now that his hair was all curled.

Soon he grew up and was destined for college
So he went to Rhode Island to get lots of knowledge.

Bryant is where he ended up
In ’77 he was just a pup.

He studied hotels and restaurants too
He could sure mix a drink, but was that what he wanted to do?

And now for his love life , where do I start?
It was a princess named Diana who really stole his heart!

On again, off again till finally they wed
She was so happy when he bought her that bed.

Turned out to be banking that gave Bill his calling
Too bad the economy just keeps on falling.

Now back to Diana to see how it’s going
If Bill isn’t working, he’s probably mowing.

Although saying,”Yes Dear” is sometimes a pain
He plays so much golf, he really can’t complain!

When it comes to watching sports he’s like any other man
But golf is his favorite, and he’s Tiger’s biggest fan.

And so life with Diana goes on through the years
Heather and Kayla, laughter and tears

Five decades of good living is like a Hole in One,
So Happy Birthday Bill and keep on having fun!

Before Assassinations

Her Mother yelled, “Go, get the Doctor!”
She ran outside and saw the license plate shrinking
The rear lights against his black car blinking.
Before vaccinations
Before the road was paved
Before assassinations
When the roads were lined with blue pebbles.
She and her sister used to play with those pebbles.
That was when life was joyful
Before the pain engulfed them all
Like a bear squeezing and clawing.
Sadness was a brief visitor.

But anger settled in
For good.
It wasn’t leaving
Ever
Forty years later her Mother said,
“You weren’t even home.  You were in school.”
But she was there that day
She ran to get the Doctor
She saw the rear lights blinking
The black car fading into the distance
Blue pebbles scrunching against the tires
The license plate shrinking.

First Post

Not much will come from my being a poet.
But I have so much fun
That it’s worth it
I know it!
