Teens are dumb
It’s not their fault.
They must have fun
And then get caught.
Though parents do
The best they can;
They don’t know how,
Or where or when
To just say no
Or that’s enough!
The kid just laughs
And says that’s tough!
While fathers tend
To say just wait;
What future holds
Depends on fate.
The mothers’ woe
Is so much worse.
She cries all day
And wants to curse.
It seems all you
Can do is laugh.
And as they say,
This too shall pass.

When children grow up
It’s easy to see,
How this one’s like you
And that one’s like me.
He’s got your good looks.
Like me she loves books.
Your nice lovely hair
Is something they share.
While some traits that matter
May not always flatter.
Was that from your side?
Or my Uncle who died?
And when they were teens
I wouldn’t claim those genes.
But now as adults
I’m pleased with the results!

I began to write poems
In the midst of a recession.
At a time when it seemed like
An unlikely obsession.
It certainly wasn’t
Going to be my profession.
Especially when I hadn’t had
One single lesson.
My 401K was dwindling
By the hour.
So I thought I’ld write a poem
To avoid being sour.
Without very much talent,
I can guess what you’re thinking.
But a poem each day,
Is better than drinking!
So don’t waste time crying
About Bernie Madoff.
Just get busy rhyming
I guarantee a payoff!

Don’t wear leggings!
One hundred dollar flat irons are
Better than twenty dollar flat irons.
Quinoa is better than white rice.
Don’t wear leggings!
Twenty dollar razors are
Better than two dollar razors.
Only wash your hair once a week.
One hundred and fifty dollar jeans are
Better than forty dollar jeans.
Don’t wear leggings!
And most importantly,
Everything feels better
With a tank top!
